The first generation of the high speed train appeared in September 1981. At first, the TGV "Paris Sud-Est" train (TGV PSE) was brought into service on the Paris - Lyon line.

The TGV Sud-Est train also exists in a version which can be supplied with three different voltages :
1500 V DC, 25 kV AC 50 Hz, 3000 V DC.
Three-voltage TGV Sud-Est trains formerly called "Ligne de Coeur" are now called "Lyria".
