Clic TGV : the Wi-Fi technology aboard the TGV

The French National Railway Company (SNCF) inaugurated a new service called "Clic TGV" based on the Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) technology.

This service available from mid-November to March 2004 is dedicated to people using the Paris - Bordeaux - Pau railway.

It gives access to a news portal. 15 TGV trainsets have been transformed for the "Clic TGV" service.

To use this service, people can either rent a Wi-Fi laptop or use their own laptop if it has a Wi-Fi card. The "Clic TGV" service is free for people owning a Wi-Fi laptop during the period of discovery of the service.

An access code is required to use the service. It can be obtained at the Cinétrain shop in the stations of Paris-Montparnasse and Bordeaux Saint-Jean or at the welcome office of the station of Pau.

The available information (weather forecasts, world news from AFP, travel and tourism information, sports results...) is stored on a server aboard the TGV train.

In addition to the "Clic TGV" service, several stations (Paris-Gare du Nord, Paris-Montparnasse, Bordeaux Saint-Jean, Pau, Lille Flandres, Lille Europe) have already been equipped with hotspots to connect to the Internet.
