This railcar, designed by Bombardier, can be equipped either with Diesel engines or with electric drives. The AGC trainset can also be a two-mode railcar (Electric and Diesel drives simultaneously).

279 AGC trainsets were ordered by the French Railway Company (SNCF) for inter-city rail services. When it is composed of three elements, it offers 208 seats. Its commercial speed reaches 99 mph (160 kph).

The concept of modularity was one of the major interests as soon as the beginning of the studies of this new railcar. Thus, the AGC railcar has large articulated connections between coaches giving easy access to the passengers.

The Saint-Gobain company, located in Sully-sur-Loire (Loiret) in France, produces the glasses of the AGC railcar using innovative technological solutions such as an increased resistance against impact.

Among the numerous French regions who chose to buy these new railcars, the Nord-Pas de Calais region ordered 15 AGC railcars for an amount of 60 million euros.
These future AGC railcars with Diesel engines will be brought into service on the following lines :

The Lorraine Region which ordered 12 AGC trainsets will receive these new regional railcars between 2004 and 2006.
